The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course, designed and built on the Avoid, Deny Defend (ADD) strategy developed by ALERRT (Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training) in 2004, provides strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. Topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, civilian response options, medical issues, and considerations for conducting drills.

Eric Harrell has been in the fire service for eighteen years. He previously served two years with the Big Spring Fire Department and is currently a Captain for the Midland Fire Department at Station Five, which is the high angle rescue and confined space rescue station. Eric is the SWAT Medic Team Commander and has been a SWAT medic since 2015. Eric has worked with the Midland County Sheriff’s Office SWAT, FBI, DEA, US Marshals, and DPS Special Response Teams. Eric is also a Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) instructor and has been a C.R.A.S.E. instructor since 2016. Eric joined the military right out of high school and then was a welder for twenty years before becoming a firefighter. Now welding is just a hobby for him.

 Approved for one hour CE credit from SHRM and HRCI.
