President's Message

Johnathan Lee Iverson grew up in Harlem. As a child he became a member of The Boys Choir of Harlem preforming all over the world and preforming in front of world leaders and dignitaries. He has shared the stage with such renowned artist like Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Plácido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, and Tony Bennett before he turned 18. He was being groomed to be an opera singer when life presented another pathway. In 1998 at the age of 22, he became the youngest and the first African American Ringmaster for the world-famous Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. In his 20-year career with the circus, he became part of the Greatest Show on Earth and was the final Ringmaster for this institution.

On November 10, 2021, Johnathan Lee Iverson will be the closing keynote speaker at Texas PRIMA’s Annual Conference & Expo held at Moody Gardens in Galveston, TX. For those Risk Management Professionals that will be unable to attend in person this year, a Virtual Pass will be offered. The Texas PRIMA Board is already hard at work making plans for this annual conference. This year will be one that you do not want to miss.

In preparation for the Conference, the Call for Presentations is currently open. This is your opportunity to share your Risk and Insurance Story so that others can learn. Make sure you do not miss the deadline to get your proposals in for this wonderful and important opportunity.

Over the next several months, more information will be made available about the conference. Make sure to watch your emails so that you do not miss valuable information from Texas PRIMA. An example of this is that you are now able to book your room at the conference hotel. There are many that have already jumped on this opportunity. Make sure to secure your spot at the conference rate. For more information about the conference and the link to make hotel reservations, go to the Texas PRIMA website at www.texasprima.org.

It is members like you that make Texas PRIMA family. This year will be one big family reunion as we gather under the Big Top and share stories and get to see and interact with one another. Until then, make sure to register for one of the several upcoming Webinars or to see what is happening on the Texas PRIMA Community Forum. If there is any way Texas PRIMA can be of assistance to you or if you just need to chat, please reach out to myself or one of the other board members. We miss you and cannot wait to see you.

Calling All Ringmasters & Circus Performers

Ahh the circus.. The big top, filled with daring and entertaining acts around the ring, along with curiosities galore. For the circus to go off without a hitch, performers must engage in countless hours of imagination, preparation, and practice of their craft. Did you notice a ringmaster in action, handling the clown show and producing a seamless circus performance? Spot the newest act that will be the next big attraction? Witness some trick riding, a little tight roping, trapezing, and cannonball catching this year? If so, consider a nomination to recognize and memorialize those members and performances of our very own proverbial circus, where extraordinary acts and accomplishments are celebrated under the big top that is our Texas PRIMA Annual Conference. Both the Risk Professional of the Year and the Rising Star recipients receive complimentary conference registration and one-night hotel accommodations!

The Risk Professional of the Year recognizes an individual who exemplifies excellence, innovation, and commitment to the risk and insurance management field.

The Rising Star Award honors someone with between 2-7 years of professional experience in the public risk and insurance management industry who was exemplified leadership potential, achievement, and professional development.

The Risk Management Program Achievement Award honors programs, projects, or products that are creative and successful, and highlights the success of our public entity organizations.
